What is considered a long chain? How long is yours?

We've accepted an officer on our house. They have a house to sell, and their buyer has a house to sell to first time buyers so that's 3 houses in a chain is this a long chain? We've sold two houses in the past but they have always been to cash or first time buyers.

That's a short chain! We recently completed in a chain of 9 - we all got from offer to completion in 9 weeks, which was bloody stressful but apparently really good going.
