How to separate a room

I have 2 kids in the same room, 10 year old girl & 3 year old boy. I can't take the arguing anymore about who's making the mess, who has to tidy up etc so need a way of fairly cheaply separating their room. My mum used a curtain for me & my brother, but there's not way a curtain is going to keep this 3 year old out! Found some great room dividers in b&q but they're out of stock everywhere near me & for delivery :(
Any idea very much appreciated!

Btw I can't use one of those open shelving unit type things it just won't be enough & they're going to have to have some of their furniture up against whatever 'wall' I make

Oh god I'm rubbish no I don't, it's about 4 1/2 meters by 3 1/2 meters, very roughly

Without seeing the room. Would a semi permanent partition wall work using wooden beams and plasterboard?

This sounds like the sort of thing I want but would it cost a fortune for someone to do?

do you have free standing wardrobes? They could go across the room so each has their own cupboard side. Securely attached to the wall at one end and then to each other.

I grew up in a room that had built in wardrobes separating it.

If you know someone who is good at DIY, it shouldn't cost that much. Just some timber and plasterboard.
Can you draw a rough picture of the room? Where the door, radiator and window is?

I don't know if it would work but how about a big IKEA cube storage unit thing? You can put cupboards, drawers and boxes in them.

I have a family full of bloody builder types but no one ever has the time to come & do anything for free or very cheap as they're busy with their every day jobs, which is obviously understandable. I've had laminate flooring stored under my kids bed for months as I've had no one to come & fit it lol.

Funnily enough my partner did suggest the wardrobe thing today, it could work as a short term solution however it wouldn't cover much of the room due to how big they are.

The annoying thing is one of them will have the window & radiator the other one won't, but the room can't be split the other way as they'd be too narrow to get stuff in

We are in the process of splitting the room for my DS 5 and DD 3 to stop the fighting etc and we are using gyproc to make a false wall.

This is my awful drawing 😂 the radiator is under the window, the line in the middle shows where I'd need it separated, it's not the perfect square like I've drawn it so separating down the middle of the window wouldn't work

Proudmummy are you doing that as a stud wall, like with the frame built etc? This is what my family would never have the time to come & do, & I don't think I could afford to pay someone to come & do it. I'm gutted about those partition walls in b&q they'd be ideal but got
No chance of them fitting my my Ford Focus if I get them from a b&q that's further away!

B&Q do deliver. Can't remember how much it costs, but can't be too expensive DH has used them.

Ha my cousin tagged me in that on fb, I said my 3 year old would have a field day & the wall would be dismantled within 3 seconds!

Theyre out of stock for delivery aswell which is so annoying! If they had them in my local one I could have asked my dad to pick them up in his van, but nearest they have them is about a half hour drive away, it's actually right near my mums so I'm there a lot but would be like trying to get blood out of a stone getting my dad to drive that far for me!

I've looked on the ikea website there's nothing suitable on there. I'm just going to end up with a bloody curtain aren't I, that my 3 year old is going to pay no attention to what so ever & I'll still have the arguments!

Do you have any builders yards nearby?
You can fit half a dozen 2m lengths of 2"x2" in your car with the back seat down.
If your DP can use a drill and the saw, he can put the frame up. Just measure half way and find the nearest beam in the ceiling to fix it to. Be careful of the size of screws going into the floor, you don't want to hit any pipes or cables.
Then measure the inside of your car to see what is the largest plasterboard size you can get in. Use plasterboard screws rather than nails.

What about the babydan configure gates, you can get extensions for them and can have them at different angles so doesn't have to be a straight line across the room. Plus easy for your daughter to get in and out of her side.

I have a b&q round the corner, or failing that my uncle is a plasterer so getting plasterboard is no problem, it's just whether we can be trusted to build this wall

3 year old would have no regard what so ever for the baby gates, he just leaves a path of destruction where ever he goes!

Something that could probably be put together with things from b&q, and maybe one of those coloured voile curtains one side for an extra bit of privacy. Hmm I think tomorrow I'll have a look & get measuring & pricing. L brackets to attach to the ceiling etc?
