Painting hallway/staircase

We have just had a call from our decorator to say he can move forward the date for decorating the hallway/staircase in our 3 storey townhouse.
That's great, but he is now coming on Monday! We haven't chosen a paint colour and I'm scared of making the wrong choice because I feel rushed!! We want something neutral but it needs to brighten our hallway as it's quite dark.

It's a new build house (4years old) so there are no original features to think about colour wise. Any help/ advice on colours would be great!!

We were looking at dulux timeless but not sure whether to go for a grey colour, or is grey the new magnolia (which is what we currently have).

We have F&B Wimborne White in ours. Is that the one that is basically magnolia under another name? Either way it helped brighten it up so I recommend it. Although it shows marks horribly and doesn't clean up well.

pick a colour you love and then buy the next lighter colour down the scale
..from my experience

I suggest going for a colour ..but then I'm not a neutral gal.
My hall is pale blue ..looks great with stark white woodwork

Unless you are really careful family that won't mark walls on stairs get waterproof or washable or whatever it is called so you can get rid of marks etc

I've just been to B&q and bought a huge amount of tester pots. Hopefully one will be the perfect colour! Thinking of a grey and then to chose a colour and do some big bold canvas pictures. Probably looks better in my head than it will in reality!!

If you decide to go for grey then DO NOT get dulux once in chic shadow. Lovely colour but after 3 coats over magnolia it still looks patchy. I tried roller, paid pad and brush but still looks dreadful.

Love Love Love timeless
You then can add any colour you fancy in terms of accessories
