Help - Where To Live In South Wales - In Order To Commute To Bristol

Please help, would like to buy a house in south wales so that I can commute to Bristol. What areas are very good and decent areas, low crime. Not bothered by school catchment areas but I presume the good areas will have good schools anyway. Do not want to live near large council areas.

Would you be driving? The traffic around Bristol is mad. Whereabouts would you need to get to for work?

I'm purely guessing at Christchurch or Caerleon, want nice family areas

What's your budget?

user1484217699 · 12/01/2017 11:38

Max £270k

But would like to purchase below that budget if possible

Also would like to add, I don't have to be in the city, outside villages just fine as well

Is there any specific reason you want to live in South Wales and commute? It would be a horrible journey. You would have to run the gauntlet of the worst bits of the M5.

Spindelina · 12/01/2017 14:56

You might well be quicker driving to a S Wales train station and getting the (frequent) bus from Temple Meads.

To be honest I cannot buy anything decent in Bristol, you get a lot more for the money in Wales

Try Weston-Super-Mare (M5 side), Worle, Congesbury, Backwell, anywhere along the A370 corridor.

Just to add, if you look at WSM, ask the agent or ask on here if it is anywhere near the Bourneville estate, as you would want to avoid that.

I'd be amazed if you can get anything in backwell for that budget. Nailsea is a bit cheaper and absolutely fine. The secondary school there is really good.

Depending on the time of day the commute from Magor to Bristol is about 20 minutes. Magor is a nice area, there are nice areas in Chepstow. You'd certainly be able to by something decent with your budget in both areas.

Manumission · 12/01/2017 16:19

Are you sure you want that postcode up there in full? I've just checked and it identifies a specific building not an NCP or similar.

Shadowboy · 12/01/2017 16:22

Chepstow is nice.

If you're up for that kind of journey, bits of Gloucestershite at the bottom there are also good value.

As is Shepton Mallet and some of the nearby towns (Not Wells, sadly).
