Pylons and Electric Transmission lines

Trying to buy a property and this was included in the survey/search carried out by the lawyer

"Have any overhead transmission lines been identified within 500m of the study site ? Yes Direction NE" Distance is 416m, I didnt notice the lines when I viewed the property and have checked it out several times

Would this distance put anyone off 4 football fields should be enough

I guess there is a reason why they stipulate 500ms in these reports. I understand there are some reports that indicate possible health risks from pylons - I probably wouldn't be put off at that distance though, if it was 200ms I wouldn't proceed.

Some of the reports of the 'health risks' of pylons are hilariously poor. There are published studies where they claim a correlation between pylons and health conditions but it turns out that several of the identified sites in the study were only places they planned to build pylons but either haven't yet or decided not to.

DH and I researched it when we looked at a house near pylons. In the end we decided that (a) the pylon was too close and you could see it from all the windows at the front of the house (we didn't want a pylon view) and (b) it didn't really matter if the health risks were only imagined; it would always affect saleability and value in the future because people think there might be a risk.

However, the pylon in question was much closer and very much visible. Walking past the street (we bought a different house nearby but not near the pylons) we also noticed that you can hear them from the path outside the house.

No proof of health effects, and anyone who worries and also has electricity in the house needs to go back to school.

Visibility and audible hum can be an issue .

It will have been on a "desktop" environmental survey and it's one of the searches. The postcode goes in and then a report is generated on things like contaminated land risk and flood risk but also various other things such as pylons. It's for you to decide whether you have any issues with it; it's just one of the standard reporting items. Hope that helps.

Sadly, special there are an awful lot people who do seem to think that the electricity in their house is completely different when it's in the wires outside their house.

That's what affects how easy a house will be to sell. Actual reality has little to do with it. Alas.

But in this OP's case, it's not a worry because she had to work hard to figure out where the pylons on the report even were.

Thanks for the message, personally I am not worried but what I am trying to gauge is the perception of people as per ease of resale and value impact.

I mean I dont think one can see it but will go and check this weekend again

there are indeed a lot of dumbos around when it comes to science. All we can do is keep stating the facts, and hope that ignorance becomes something to fix, not something to be proud of.

Where I live the municipality buried an electric transmission line as it was deemed unhealthy for those who lived close to it, because of the alleged electromagnetic fields around the transmission lines. Must have cost a lot.

To be honest they're a million tines safer than living that distance from a road. Several deaths every single day from crashes, plus very well proven damage from air pollution.
I'd recommend buying a house next to a grave yard, power lines, and a mobile phone tower (and a lidl). Yes The price will be lower on resale but you'll save more than that in the buying it and mortgage payments!

The search the OP has seen is likely to be a desktop one so i don't know if that sort of info is available elsewhere by some googling though surely it must be as virtually everything else is! i've read the desktop reports so haven't had to look for the info anywhere else. OP, does the search tell you how far the pylons are? Other things come up on those searches too but can be quite a way away - or over the road so you'd really need to have a look at the report and see what itv says. if you haven't been sent a copy yet i'd ask for it; they're fairly user-friendly to read.
