Changing extension plans

Hello. For those of you who have gone through the extension process, is it usual to start doubting what you plan to do? Did anyone stay to plan?

Sort it all out at the planning stage as it gets progressively harder (expensive) to change as time goes on.
We spent a while getting things right and haven't had any reason to doubt it, but we still started wondering if we should have made it bigger (we shouldn't!) And everyone is telling us we should have done a loft conversion while the roof was off (we shouldn't)
Just assume it's finished when planning goes in (and especially once the builder arrives) and you won't want to change your mind. Oh and get the best architect you can afford.

Thank you johnd2. We have planning permission already and 3D visuals of what we intend to create. It's just been such a long winded process getting to this stage thatbi keep wondering about other options. I need to stop it!

I felt the same for a while. I kept looking on Rightmove, wondering if we were doing the right thing etc. It's only since I've started planning down to brass tacks (every nail, screw and hinge) that I've really become committe to the project.
