G4 LED Capsules flickering

I replaced the G4 capsules in a 6 light fittings in my sitting room, and then promptly changed them back to halogen. I had forgotten that I couldn't cope with the flickering until after I changed back today.

I have done some internet research today and it seems that flickering is a very common problem. Unfortunately my electrical knowledge is very basic and I do not understand any of the answers! My light fitting has a transformer built into it, but I have no idea other than that. It is a couple of years old and I got it from John Lewis, so it should be a modern spec. The capsules I put in are from Home and Bargain, just bought to test out. A couple of posts have suggested using Philips as they are better quality Has anyone successfully used these? I don't want to buy a whole new set if the same things is going to happen again.

I have put LEDs in our floor lamps and ordinary ceiling lights, as well as in a 3 light G9 fitting. Since we got our smart meter DH has been driving me made measuring energy consumption. The LEDs are much lower in energy, but the flickering is giving me a headache and they are coming out tomorrow. :)

Meant to say, all our other LEDs are working without problem, so perhaps it's some incompatibility with the light fitting.

it might be the "transformer" (it could be a PSU).

It is likely to be rated for min/max power demand. LEDs use very much less power so may be below the minimum rating.

I am hoping that small, cool LED lamps will do away with the practice of "transformers" being hidden in ceilings and lamps.

Thank you PigletJohn. That is what I thought. I have no idea if it can we worked around. I wondered about changing to a Philips bulb with a higher lumens and wattage. Apparently some bulbs have a built in 'rectifier' but I can't find anything about this.

I was thinking about replacing the whole fitting, and having a look on John Lewis website. Saw something I liked with G9 bulbs, but the feedback was negative due to the halogen bulbs keep blowing. JL response was to change to LED. I might go into their lighting department later and see if they can help me choose another.

We changed the transformer in our Sebastian John Lewis fitting. £10 from Maplins.

Thanks Fluffy. Unfortunately that is beyond either mine or DHs DIY expertise, but I shall have to speak nicely to my brother. I will go into Maplin's tomorrow and see if anyone can help.
