Do we need a plumber for this?

We are about to move house; packing and removal firm booked etc. We are taking our washing machine and the removal firm said they can not connect to the water supply in the new house, something to do with insurance.

So my question is do I need to get my plumber out to connect it or can we do it ourselves? It's a new (2 years old) cold fill Siemens machine. It was installed by John Lewis when we bought it and I didn't watch how they did it unfortunately!

Appreciate any advice.

If the new house has a washer plumbed in already then it's a doddle. Just a case of screwing the hose to the water supply and then connecting up the waste hose to the waste pipe. There are video on YouTube if you get stuck.

Don't forget to spin & drain your current washer before disconnecting it.

I've done it on my own before, easy. The hardest part is moving the machine. The inlet pipe should have a valve- turn it off, unscrew connection hose and you're done (drain off excess water in a bucket, maybe have something to catch any water as you unscrew).

Repeat process in reverse in new property.

No. You do not need a plumber.
If your new house has plumbing for a washing machine, all you will need to do is, slip the waste hose into the waste pipe and connect the cold water hose to the cold water supply. It will just screw on. Make sure you have the washer on the end of the water pipe and that you don't lose it in the move.
When you have fitted them both, turn the small tap/value on where you fit the water hose on and push the washing machine into place.

Oh that's wonderful news! Getting a plumber put would have been a headache to be honest.

Thanks everyone for your help (and pointer re spin and drain - hadn't thought of that) the house does currently have a washer in the utility so looks like it will be a simple job. Will watch the you tube video too.

...and after you have done it, run a test cycle while you carefully look for leaks.

Built-in appliances are more work, as are Miele because they are very heavy.

If you have a smooth kitchen floor, wet-mop it clean, let it dry, then squirt WD40 or furniture spray on it, and the machine will slide more easily.

Will also check for leaks very carefully afterwards.
