Does anyone do this commute? Seen some great houses and schools but worried about the commute, either by train or car

Are you heading into central Manchester?
My husband has done this commute and I think you'd be looking at 1 1/2 hours each way in the car.

I don't think the trains are very good for that route - slow and limited options, but things may have changed.

Where would you be moving from and what are you looking for in the area you move to?

We both work in Manchester city centre and would prefer to travel by train.
We currently live in chorlton but want to move somewhere we can get a detached house, good schools and nice shops/cafes

If you're looking at south of Manchester have you considered looking around the Macclesfield area? Macclesfield has the faster Virgin trains that stop there rather than just the local service so you can be in the city centre in around 25 minutes if you get on one of those.

South of Stockport into Derbyshire is also worth a look. Good local amenities and trains and buses into Manchester.
