Any suggestions on what to put under the fire place mantel we are getting put in?The fireplace will never be functional so I'm not quite sure what to have under the mantel... Love the idea of books, but just not write for us!

People put church candles. Usually three cream ones of descending height. Then some fircones wistfully strewn at base. Is that what you mean?

Thats exactly what I mean!

Something like this? There's a how-to for the fake stackable log screen on Pinterest but it doesn't look hard to achieve.

They also put buddhas... or a single storm lantern with a coloured glass cover.. or an interesting piece of ceramic/glass/pottery that has a kind of flame shape. Or they put a vase with dried long leaf/reed things. Or tiny fairy lights bundled round a driftwood log. I think the idea is that it becomes either a sort of 'shrine focal point' or a 'fire' place. It's like a metaphor for gazing into the flames or making a heart of the home. So you riff on that, I think?

I would be worried about 'burning books', but I like those logs.
