Any idea what this bit does on my dishwasher?

It's on the left hand wall of my Neff dishwasher. It doesn't appear on the internet anywhere or in the manual - it's a complete mystery!!

The reason I need to know is that the most horrific smells comes out of it when I open the dishwasher door after a cycle.
Yes - I have tried cleaning washes with this that and the other!
Anyone know the secret??!

but if the dishwasher smells, and you have already taken out and scrubbed all the filters, I fear it is the way the rubber waste hose is attached under the kitchen sink.

A water filler - why is this mentioned nowhere anywhere!

The smell comes right out of there - when you open the door it comes out of that bit....

show us a photo of the waste hose, showing route and connection.
