Getting a mortgage while on benefit?

Out of curiosity and this might sounds like a silly question but can someone on benefit get a mortgage? I'm just being nosy neighbour - They are currently home owner,and as far as I know both on benefit with zillion of kids.

I doubt you have been able to since the credit crunch, but before it happened you could in certain circumstances. Benefits guaranteed for life, plus tax credits etc.

I got a mortgage on a low but regular income, tax credits and child maintenance.

More likely that they bought the house before they bred like rabbits and went on benefits.

What does it matter to you OP?

I cant see how their home ownership or how many children they have is any business of yours......unless you only want to know so you can judge them and slag them off
