Buy kitchen appliances online cheaper?

We've ordered a kitchen to be designed, supplied and fitted by a company.

But if we bought all the appliances ourselves online, it would be cheaper. Hugely cheaper.

Has anyone done this and had any problems? Or is there a reason not to do it? (I think the kitchen company would let us do this) We've got a place we could store them.

I've done it. Saved huge amounts and got the same kitchen that is in a local store for a fraction of the potential cost. Also they delivered quicker than the local store took to send the quote

A friend did it, she'd researched what she wanted for years. She waited until the next version came out, then scoured the Internet for 'last years model' which wasn't that old and a fraction of the price! She got the coffee station she wanted (£1000 when it was new out) for £100 on eBay - stockists just want to get rid of last years models ASAP so they can sell the big ticket new designs.....

Or tell the company to match he online prices. As they buy wholesale, they'd still be making a lot of money off you but it would save you hassle to have them be responsible for everything.

The problems arise when you are buying the appliances and one turns up damaged, so they can't fit it - so that causes a delay and the fitting team have to come back - which adds a charge - and if they are busy you might have to wait - so it's a problem that now they can wiggle out of as 'you were supposed to supply X by Y date and as you didn't we couldn't .... bla bla bla "

So in essence it sounds a good idea - but only if you have the time and space to buy everything ahead and get it unpacked and checked first ! And to be able to store it safely out of the way ... Take photos too of your perfect unwrapped products - so if their team scratch /drop it etc - you have proof it was fine before they touched it !!!

Just seen you said appliances. I had to go on line as when I visited several shops and stores just trying to find someone to serve me was the problem.

Everything is listed so you can see the sizes. You can see the reviews and you have a better choice.

It's worth going into a local independent retailer (many are part of the Euronics group) and asking them to put you a package together. Online prices often don't look competitive but on a sale-by-sale basis you can strike a really good deal.

oneplan this is exactly our worry. Especially since there's quite a delay between ordering our kitchen and getting it fitted. We can get it sent ahead but we can't really check it and then pack it up safely (we don't even know what to check!).

We do have storage space, but ongoing extension work means there will be a lot of people in and out of that storage space so they won't be left locked up and immune to damage.

Hi, I did a mixture. Check your local John Lewis for any cancelled orders, we picked up bargain Siemens, Neff, and Elica products from there. Like you we're doing an extension but have space to store.
I researched for the remaining two ovens and dishwasher and asked my kitchen supplier if they can match the rock bottom internet prices and she did. They arrived on site with the kitchen this week.

Check out what the kitchen company will charge you for the appliances and ask them if they will price match. Our local Neff 5* dealer was cheaper than online and there was an offer on where we get £500 cashback. In addition if there is a problem e.g. damaged in transit, then the kitchen supplier will get it all sorted.

I always like to buy from a local shop, even if it costs a little more, as they have given me more information about the products then the internet can. I recently bought a washing machine after searching for ages on the internet I gave up and went with someone who knew more than i did about it!

Your posts gave me the confidence to politely ask our (verrr verr posh) kitchen people about pricing, pointing out internet pricing.

They've matched internet prices.
