Deciding who has which bedrooms...

We are lucky enough to live in a house with five beds, 3 doubles and 2 box rooms. Currently we have a double, DD1 has a double and DD2 has a box room and we're all on one side of the house together. DD2 is only a few months old so is ok in box room for now but I'd like to move her into a double at some point. I can't decide whether one DD has a double on the other side of the landing (across the top of the stairs) or if we should move over there to avoid children crossing the stairs and then they have rooms next to each other. The only thing that puts me off is them waking up during the night and wanting to come across to our room, I'd end up having to get out of bed to go and see to them or they'd be trying to cross the stairs. Does anybody have any experience of this?

We have a 5 bedroom house also, spread over 3 floors.

I bought a small night light which plugs into the sockets in the landings. Good for shedding a bit of light, but not enough to keep them awake. Close to the ground too, so they can see where they are walking.

Sorry, I should have explained the stair bit in more detail, you go down two steps from one side, cross the top of the stairs and up two steps on the other side. They are 3.5 and 6 months and the eldest still comes into our room during the night. If we use a stairgate, would one wake the other one crying to get into our room? Would you put a gate on the top of the stairs and let them go down the two steps?

Two steps is fine, I'd let them do that at night. They are young enough to not know any different, do having stairs/various levels will be normal for them.

If you're anything like me you'll be sleeping with one eye and one ear open every night anyway!

Any possibility of putting both dcs in box rooms? Then a double can be play room/guest room. A dc in a double fills it with stuff. Even has room for a tv & etc. But Only Adults Should Have TVs In Their Bedrooms.

Id just leave them where they are until they're a fair bit bigger and it won't be an issue , if necessary use the other box room for the little ones stuff . You may find in a year or so that the big one wants her sister to share with her anyway .

Hi. My DDs are in separate bedrooms one end of the house. We have a stair gate and they have to go down a step and up another one to get to the landing to our bedroom. They are both constantly coming into our room and the stairs have never been an issue. As others have said a sensor light outside their rooms works well. Now when I look at houses it seems odd to me to be altogether..

Thanks all. Do you think a playroom for them would be useful?

If you do have room, a shared space and a private space for each can be lovely.
I wanted to be able to tell bedtime stories in dc bedrooms so I wanted room for a chair for adults. Not much more. Depends on your routines?

Routine? I'm sure we'll get into one eventually ha ha! That's just what I wanted to hear though thanks. I thought private bedrooms and shared playroom might be nice.
