DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 06/10/2016 11:30

Typo or there will be a good reason!

QueenLizIII · 06/10/2016 11:49

It does say 800 a week. I wonder if they've amended it since you posted?

pugsake · 06/10/2016 11:53

My mum in the SE took £400 a month off me for living in her house and tod me it was a pittance and wanted money for the bills, council tax, etc on top of that. The £400 didnt cover that apparently.

Oh well, the original ad was this:

I got to dream for approximately 30 minutes. Grin

Queen Shock I used to pay £100 for everything. My parents were in no way well off either.

The 400 is a 2 bed semi decent size and area with two gardens. It's private rent. My neighbours council and she pays 350ish for the same layout.

Whenever I see any London prices I just think of it like Monopoly money for some reason.

Probably as I've never been and have no experience. I'm guessing northern prices would be just as startling to London residents.

oh yeah. this was in 2002 as well. £400 a month to live at home in a room in your mothers home in 2002. Think about how astronomical that sum is now when I was paying it in 2002. I couldnt leave because of her as I couldnt get a rental deposit and rent in advance together.

I recently got my arse handed to me on an AIBU thread asking about charging adult DC rent. I was told I just wanted a free ride in not wanting to pay....Shock I wanted to pay just not that extortionate amount.

The 100 would have been 2004/5 and I was on a full time wage. Same for my brother and my sister now. 400 is just shocking.

I do food, gas and leccy on under 100 for me and two children.

She was taking the piss.

QueenLizIII · 06/10/2016 13:24

yeah. £100 a week / £400 a month in 2002 off a wage of about £16k.

For a very small room and no say in the house at all. Not allowed to choose tv programmes, no tv in my own room until I managed to buy one.

I was told that £400 was a pittance, it was put up to £500 because of her moaning a year or so later and she constantly said, who the fuck is paying the internet package and the council tax and the food. So she wanted that paying for on top of it but i dug in my heels and told her I was paying enough.

Now I see you can get rooms in shared houses for under £500 bills included in 2016 let alone 2002.

And I got my arse handed to me on AIBU on an adult rent thread and people told me I just wanted a free ride.

No: I didnt expect to live rent free, but I didnt expect to be charged extortionate rates.

Exactly. also back in 2002 the price of gas and utility bills hadnt gone through the roof.

I was also out of that house every day from 7:30am until after 7pm. I was having a shower in the morning and doing a couple of loads of washing. Other than that, what was I using? I would go out lots at weekends.
