Piglet John/Anyone - Water pump keeps turning on and off

We have a water pump that sits in the airing cupboard between the main bathroom and the ensuite. It is usually kept switched off, as we find the pressure sufficient for most purposes, but we turn it on for baths etc.

Suddenly, we are finding that if we leave it switched on after we have finished using water it keeps turning itself on and off at regular intervals; the noise is annoying to put it mildly!

Any ideas what the problem is? There is no obvious water running anywhere. I have checked the overflow and there is no problem.

If it is not something obvious, do we need a water pump specialist or will a regular plumber be able to look at this sort of thing

leak.

Thank you. Looks like we are talking regular plumber then. Do plumbers have any magical ways of finding leaks?

Have a look in the WC cistern first. Is it surprisingly full?

We had this happen! And it was the toilet!

Thanks both. Getting anxious as about to go on holiday and worried about coming back to a flood!

Will check both toilets.

Hydrangea - was the overflow going? Ours seems OK.

Also, you will (should) have an isolating switch, or possibly a fused connector, feeding the pump. If you in any doubt, turn it off or remove the fuse before going away.

Are you me?! We have exactly this problem. Think it's leaking toilet and need to sort a plumber.

We have the additional fun of problems with the pump switching itself off causing problems with the shower, but that's another problem.
