Hi, just that really! inspired by a recent Grand Designs (Horsham one)
We're buying a wreck of an Art Deco house and I think the colour and look would be amazing..
it's just that I only seem to see zinc on new extensions or new builds? Is that right?
Any info gratefully received. Thanks!

Zinc doesn't last as long as most roofing materials.

I don't know how long. I've been in a house where is was eroded into holes and leaking badly at 40 years, but I don't know when it started.

Lead lasts maybe twice as long, but people steal it. If you have a stately home you can get stainless steel with an ornamental lead coating, or painted.

Rubber seems quite popular.

Thanks PigletJohn although I have read that it lasts very well.. 100 yrs plus.. they were suggesting this on Grand Designs too.. very durable apparently?!
