Which are more comfortable: pull down bed or sofa beds?

We are thinking of making a multi-purpose spare room and want a bed which can in some way be 'put away'. However it MUST be comfortable, my parents are our most frequent visitors and they both have bad backs.

Any thoughts/suggestions/recommendations/things to avoid?

My sister in law has a pull down bed and it's as comfy as a normal bed (has a proper sprung mattress). It's King size. Their carpenter did a great job making it look like cupboards when it's 'up'.

I have never slept on a comfortable sofa bed, so anything that is a proper bed would get my vote.

we have a wall/murphy bed in our guest room (extra wall supports put in place by a carpenter). it too has a proper mattress.
all the sofa beds I've slept in either had a hollow spot where the mattress folds in half or the head is lower than the feet....

The good thing about wall beds is they stay made up. Pillows duvets etc
