How long were you looking for your house?

The market is extremely slow in our area and feel like we are never going to find anywhere to live! I am slowly but surely becoming obsessed with Rightmove! I find myself looking between 5-10 times a day.

I am curious to know how long you were looking before you found a house?

6 months but we saw the one we live in and fell in love in the morning and had an offer on ours in the afternoon so it feels like it was meant to be.

Maybe 4 months?

We started looking in about March and viewed a few. We loved one but it went sale agreed before we could get ours on the market. We put ours on the market in May and accepted an offer two weeks later. We then offered, were accepted and placed booking deposits on 4 houses but they all fell through for various reasons. We've just had an offer accepted on a fifth, which is on the same road and the same house type as the one we fell in love with back in March, so we're really hoping this one sticks!

Never again.

3 months

About a year! We ended up moving into rented so we wouldn't lose the sale on our house. We got gazumped on about four different houses and I'm so glad we did as I walked into the house we now live in and realised it was the one we'd been waiting for - ten times better (better value, better location and much bigger) than anything else we'd seen.

I thought we would find something straight away - how naive was I?

We sold ours back in June and are currently living with parents and there is nothing coming on the market.

So far I have blamed school holidays and Brexit. I'm running out of possible reasons and I am starting to get a little anxious

I'm now thinking with Christmas not too far away we might still be looking into next year.

We started looking in October 2015 and completed in August 2016. It was a total nightmare where we were constantly being outbid. What we bought was vastly different to what we first started looking at - other side of London for starters!

9 months. Thought we would never find anything after 6, but it happened!

We didn't know London so we were looking all over, we settled on an area in home counties after a month or two and carried on looking for about 3 months. Nothing was suitable.
Then we found a new area in zone 4 and found somewhere within 2 weeks, mid January.
Didn't complete until late April.
If it's taking a long time, maybe your requirements can't be fulfilled in the area you're looking.

Three weeks. Popular part of London. Fast moving.

4 years. Sold 3 times, out bid on 3, rented for 6 months to save the chain. And it's not our forever house. But it's ok.

Three months. I had watched the market for about two years before that though.

2 years and still looking!

Sold my house in Sept 2014 and within 2-3 months the stock levels in my area collapsed dramatically and have continued to fall month on month ever since.

We saw ours in the local paper on thurs, viewed on Saturday, put ours on market same day, sold ours Sunday before it even went on rightmove and had offers all in and accepted by Monday.
Only wish the conveyancing process had been as speedy, it took months but we are now in our forever home.

Just under 5 years. We sold in 2011 and rented whilst looking for our perfect home. We completed in july this year.

We looked from April and moved the last day of June. Felt like a lifetime!

Sold our house in February (within hours of putting it on the market). Couldn't find anywhere to buy so moved into rented in late April to keep the chain in place. Found our current house in July, relieved that we'd be in by Xmas but didn't complete until the following March as the seller couldn't find anywhere to go!

We decided to relocate last November and have been looking since then. Finally found the one we are hopefully buying in June this year.

Started looking in Oct 2014, after a few false starts I found this place in Oct 2015. Moved in end of Jan 2016 due to delays from disorganised surveyor.

I viewed a few places I could have bought, but looking back this is definitely the best house I viewed, so I'm glad I held out.

3 months but bought the first one we saw!

2 days, 2nd house we saw. The first one was amazing in the photos on rightmove and about 450k. In reality, it was horribly small and had no space at all and the bathroom had no door! In sadness, went home and looked again. This house looked decent and decided to take a look the next day. It was 300k. Fell in love, offered on the spot and accepted. Completed in 2 months.

15 minutes. We had always seen this house round the corner from us and used to joke that when we were grown ups we would live there. It came on the market, we booked a viewing and offered on the doorstep. We hadn't looked at anything else and haven't since. Amazingly they accepted our offer and so we have then had to list ours, eventually sell and thankfully the vendor has waited patiently for us since July. All moving nicely now though, hoping to be in by November. When you know it's right, you just know.

About three years. But I did have a baby in the middle of that which put things on hold for a while!
