I got a upvc door a few years ago, cost £850. It's a good quality one though.

I thought upvc ones were the cheapest, with wooden being more expensive?

fwiw we went for a composite door for our victorian terrace.
victorian style with stained glass windows. looks really good. cost 2k incl the window above the door.

We've just ordered a 'composite' door with a window at the side in a green colour and it was £1300

Yes, I think the composite doors are seen as "best" now - look very much like painted wood but are stronger / need less maintenance / less likely to warp etc.

Our builders have recommended Solidoor and Rockdoor as brands.

We have a Rockdoor. Very solid, safe, and low maintenance.

We got a quote for a wooden door plus new surround (1920/30s house - wanted it to be in keeping with the age of the house) - was £2600. .

If you have an ordinary house, with a door of ordinary size, a wooden door will cost you £100 upwards, and a new hardwood doorframe, if required, not so much.

Plastic doors are not very secure. Eurocylinder locks are not very secure. British Standard mortice locks are very secure.

There are some examples of doors here though you can pay less or more. There will be a fitting cost on top. National door and window companies will charge whatever they can.

Beware of composite doors the colours often fade and sometimes the door can get scratched leaving a noticeably lighter material underneath - this happened to our £900 shiny red composite door, 5 years later it was mess! We have now gone for a stylish aluminium one this time powder coated paint really high spec. It cost almost £3k but it's worth it.

We put a Yale composite front door, dark blue, period style with decorative fanlight, on a rental property. It cost about £900 with all hardware, security locks and fitting. Done in about 10 days start to finish. We were very pleased with it and it still looks like new over 4 years later.
