As title really.

I've just moved house, paid for a packing service and the removal company wants the boxes back. Is this usual?

We had to give the boxes back both times we've used a packing service. I think we did have the option of paying for the boxes instead but tbh we were glad to get rid of them.

Yes

sleeplessinderbyshire · 17/09/2016 22:06

Yes totally normal. They usually give you a week or two to unpack ACF then come and collect them.

Bithurt · 17/09/2016 22:06

When my grandma moved house a couple of years ago she had to return all the boxes.

LittleBearPad · 17/09/2016 22:06

Yes. Totally normal. They'all cone and get them.

RootTeeToot · 17/09/2016 22:07

It can be helpful really as otherwise you have loads if boxes to get rid of.

Thanks everyone. I've moved 60 miles away and wouldn't have thought it think it worth their while to collect from such a distance. Seems I was wrong!

Tell them they can have them back quicker if they come over and help you unpack! Grin

Vvlgari · 17/09/2016 22:13

Yes. They came to collect them.

We didn't have to give ours back... But I think they included supply of boxes in the quote.

wowfudge · 17/09/2016 22:55

First time we moved we kept the boxes ( they were recycled anyway), second time the removal firm wanted them back and collected them.

Pigeonpost · 17/09/2016 23:32

We had to pay for them and then get rid ourselves. Easy to give away though. I would much rather they took them back and we didn't have to pay. But we moved over 300 miles...

JT05 · 18/09/2016 00:23

They took the ones we unpacked on the day. Our stuff had been in storage so we started early in the morning. We were left with few boxes to unpack later and we took them to the tip.

BackforGood · 18/09/2016 00:26

Yes, although some do options such as you buying them, then they 'buy' them back off you, so no skin off their nose if you don't return them...sort of 'hiring' them.

PigletJohn · 18/09/2016 12:13

and if you have any left over, don't skip them. Put them on Freegle and grateful locals will collect them for re-use.

Sprig1 · 18/09/2016 18:28

Every time we have moved they have said they would come and collect. I wanted to keep them so said that I would drop them back and never did. I have never had a call chasing me and I have done this three times.

scaryteacher · 18/09/2016 19:17

They never came back to Brussels to collect mine!
