Which Kitchen worktops?

Currently planning our new kitchen when we start our extension in March but are unsure as to what to do about worktops.

Laminate, granite? Id love corian or granite but think its going to blow the budget but fear Laminate wont look so good.

Is there anything else in between the two to look into?

I'm in a similar position. We've currently got solid wood, which looks good despite us not oiling it for at least two years regularly. I'm waiting to see how much the extension costs before working out what the budget is for worktops :)

I would have loved corian (liked the integral sinks) but went for quartz and absolutely love it, it's completely indestructible. Nothing we do marks or stains it and it's so easy to clean. We've got brilliant white (Samsung radianz I think it was called) too so it would show any tiny mark.

Quartz is good - Silestone or similar

Granite is more prone to flaking and chipping due to natural fault lines (and I believe it is more expensive?)

Corian - can look nice but is a hell of a lot of money for what can end up looking cheap
