I am hoping to do a loft conversion and understand there are strict regulations about having a safe and protected exit in case of fire. Our staircase descends into the living room, and there isn't really space to create a hallway without majorly reconfiguring the downstairs space (moving cloakroom etc).
Has anyone done a loft conversion with this layout and what did you do to get it approved? I have read up on sprinklers/fire doors/escape windows etc, but none of the builders or architects seem to know exactly what we would need to put in place in order to get planning. Is it a case of apply for planning and they will tell us what to do?
Any advice would be greatly appreciated!
