Silica gel in fridge and freezer

My fridge and freezer are going into storage for some time I don't want them to smell go mouldy ect I have read to either put something in the door so it can't be closed or take the doors of. I'm wondering if silica gel bags would help. And if I did use them could I then keep the doors closed.

Can you just tape a bit of sponge to the door to stop it fully closing?

specialsubject · 02/09/2016 16:41

As on your other thread - polystyrene and tape. The gel wont do it and you will get mould if you close the doors.

ghostspirit · 02/09/2016 16:42

Well I was hoping I could close it thats why I asked about the gel. It's going into storage I won't have any aaccess to it. And a member of staff might close the doors or something

Ah ok so the gel won't stop the mould

Gel won't work for long enough. Better to tape the door so it is ajar.

Ah ok

If it is in storage you put a padlock on and no-one but you goes in. Btw dont forget your insurance.

Definitely - you must have insurance. It is in a climate controlled warehouse, not a container in a field i hope?

ghostspirit · 03/09/2016 13:36

Yeah it even says in the paper work about insurance. But then council know nothing even though they the ones that set the storage up and put in paper work we recommend u out use insurance. Maybe I can ask removal people.
