Kitchen Floor

I'm having my kitchen done soon. Whoop whoop.

I'm having off-white units with laminate oak-look work surfaces a bit like this

I'm having a backboard made of the same material as the work surface going up the wall and stopping half way between the wall and base units (like upstands but coming up higher).

Then I'll paint white above the backboard and everywhere else in the kitchen.

So, I'll have cream cupboards, mid-wood surfaces and white walls. That's three different colours.

What do I put on the floor? The fitter recommended laminate flooring in the same colour as the work surface but I don't like wood effect flooring. He said to introduce another color would make it look mad but I don't know. I'm looking for MN's wisdom on this before I take the plunge.

Ignore the fitter. There's not really much in the way of colour in white, cream and wood effect! Are you thinking of tiles or vinyl or what for the floor?

Dark grey slate type tiles?

wowfudge I know I've just made my kitchen sound really boring! We're going to put some colour in somewhere just not sure where yet.

I'm thinking cream tiles for the floor but the fitter has got my panicking that there'll be too many shades of boring Confused

Cakes I wanted quite a light floor. It's a small kitchen so wanted to stay away from blacks and greys if possible

Don't go too pale on the floor - it'll show every mark, bit of fluff, food, etc. A mid colour is best. Paint one of your white walls in a pale colour to lift things.

wowfudge I know, I'm fully prepared for the headaches of a light floor.

Yes, I was going to paint the far wall a nice olive green colour. The kitchen's a galley kitchen and that wall will only have a radiator on it so it's a good one to add a bit of colour.

My friend has gorgeous tiles that look like wooden flooring in a mid grey. They don't make the room too dark and also don't show all the dirt.

Limestone colour would look nice on the floor. I wouldn't paint walls white though- will make cream units look dirty colour. Be brave and paint them all green Wink
