Coloured grouting - yay or nay?

Just having the bathroom refine and have been asked out which colour grouting we'd like. It's pretty plain in there, large white tiles and grey floor.

I'm tempted to have a pale grey grouting as it discolours over time or just stick to white. Anyone have thoughts on this?

If you're having grey tiles I'd definitely have grey grouting. Either way it will be grey in a year!

KingJoffreyLikesJaffaCakes · 22/08/2016 22:38

I think it will look like a public toilet.

I like coloured grouting but go for red or pink. Grey will just look like grubby grouting.

Hagothehills · 22/08/2016 22:39

Would pale grey not just look permanently dirty? If it was something like blue or pink grouting it would be different but could look good. I think I'd stick with white personally so I can just throw bleach at it and be done with it

bestofbothhovis · 22/08/2016 22:41

We've moved into a flat and previous tenants thought white tiles and the painting the grout black would look good. It looks so disgusting but I haven't got around to changing it yet as it's not on the essential list of things to do

DP's got white tiles with light grey marbling effect in his bathroom, he chose grey grouting for it, it looks really good

HerRoyalNotness · 22/08/2016 22:44

We have pale grey against white subway tiles on walls and mottled grey marble floor tiles. looks fresh, I prefer it over White grout immensely

dietcokeandwine · 22/08/2016 22:46

I would always match the grout to the tile colour, so if you have grey floor tiles then get a coordinating grey grout but stick to white grout for white wall tiles.

MakemineaGandT · 22/08/2016 22:47

Grey. Definitely.

JasperDamerel · 22/08/2016 22:55

I have grey in my kitchen and it looks much better than white.

livinginabox · 23/08/2016 08:46

Do you have a photo you could share OP? Would love to see how it came out. I'm about to do my bathroom and have the same dilemma.

TheHobbitMum · 27/08/2016 19:42

I have small white tiles with mid grey grouting and sealant in my bathroom. I love it :D

WhimsicalWinnifred · 27/08/2016 19:44

I think dark grey is best as discolouration and dirt over time will be hidden.

A hungry horse I went to had white tiles and red grouting. It looked amazing. Would you try that?

TheElementsSong · 31/08/2016 22:26

We have grey grouting against white-and-marble-print tiles in our new en suite. Very happy with it.

Reviving this thread about grouting.
So you think the grey grouting on the marble effect tiles is off? Should it be white instead? Big argument with DH. I think white grouting would have been better and he thinks grey is great because it’s all nice and symmetrical and the grouting lines are kept.

The tile company gave me the wrong advice and now I’m scratching my head only after the tiles are grouted :( it’s going to be a sleepless night because we made this same mistake in the en-suite too

Thanks a lot for your precious input xxx

It looks fine. What do you mean the tile company gave you the wrong advice? I think what you mean is your preference is for white, but that doesn't mean grey is wrong or doesn't look right.

flirtygirl · 11/07/2019 10:58

linouta grey is definitely better. It looks great.

Linouta · 11/07/2019 11:26

@WhimsicalWinnifred they told me the light grey grout is the closest to the white tile colour. Should have thought it through myself and blame it on baby brain

Thank you both. I’m getting over it. On my way to the house to see what will be done about the en-suite. It’s worse there as tiles were cut, there are strips everywhere and the grey grouting makes them more obvious :(

userxx · 11/07/2019 12:41

I've got dark grey grouting with lightish tiles in the bathroom. I love it. Infact i have no white grout in my house at all.

userxx · 11/07/2019 12:44

@Linouta That looks amazing. Similar colour scheme to mine. White grout disclours very quickly, especially in a bathroom. You've made the right choice.

Linouta · 11/07/2019 12:50

@userxx you have almost convinced me. I got over it almost in the family bathroom and I think it will look great but in en-suite, marble effect tiles on the wall and black hexagon on the floor, I think a whitish grouting would give a more seamless marble look. DH told me not to go to the house as the tiler is extremely upset with me.
I will post pics of finished bathrooms when it’s done
