4m x 4m kitchen

We are buying a house with a 4x4m kitchen, which needs to be re-done. Will my dreams of a kitchen diner with an island be possible in this space or is it likely to need an extension?!

I know I need to discuss with a builder, but we are not going to be in for another few months and I want to start dreaming planning now! Anyone have any knowledge?

How big does the dining bit need to seat?

That made no sense - how many does it need to seat or how big does it need to be was what I was asking!

Ideally it would seat 6 people

Think it's going to be super tight isn't it? So if a table is roughly 1m wide, plus a metre for a chair each side to physically pull it out and get in, that's 3m. Depends if there is space just for that or if it needs a cabinet running behind it!

Ours is 3.6 x 3.4m and has room for a 6 seater table which we push one of the short ends touching the wall and pull out if we have guests (family of 4).... otherwise too small really Im afraid. We are planning to knock through into the large lounge (1970s design so was meant to be a lounge diner which was the thing back then apparently!) - any option to do something like that?
