Mortgage - fixed term or permanent?

So we are looking to buy our first house next year. Currently I work in medical research, so my contract is fixed term until 2018. I've been working here a year.

I'm wondering if I would be better off trying to get a job with a permanent contract. When it came to getting a mortgage I would have only been in the new job for about a year, but it would be permanent.

Any ideas on what mortgage providers prefer?

My broker said (asking as your not SE) that a signed contract is all they care about. I started my job the month we applied!

Dh is on a fixed term contract. Our broker said it was fine as long as it had been renewed at least once and had at least 6 months to run.
