Currently researching new table and chair ideas on Pinterest . Im seeing lots of rugs under the dining tables. These look lovely I cant help thinking they seem largely impractical! Surely food would get dropped on the rug making a mess?

Anyone have a rug under there dining table like this?

I think this myself every time!

I have a rug under my dining room table. It's dark so stains don't show up but I have it to protect my carpet from food mess created by 3 & 1 year old rather than style. The rug is easier to spot clean & anytime they have spilled juice I put a towel under the rug & it stops it getting to the carpet. It does look good but it's purely practical. A rug is cheaper to replace than a carpet.

Following. I was looking at indoor/outdoor rugs at IKEA wondering if they would be practical.
