I'm attempting to wallpaper !

I want to wallpaper our spare bedroom in stripey paper . I have papered once before so have a bit of an idea of what I'm doing .

I don't feel confident enough to go round the window of door frame , so would it look odd if I just did two opposite walls and left the other two painted ?

Any tips on puttimg up stripey paper?

You should start on the wall opposite the window and you a plumb line to centre the vertical line. ( that is a bit if string with a heavy weight on the end, sorry if you already know that!) mark the points where the line is. This should be where your first edge of wall paper goes. Now work your way to the corners with the paper.
Striped paper is quite difficult to hang as walls are rarely vertically flat.

Does that mean that I will have to cut a skinnier strip of paper to fit into the corner?

Have you watched any videos on Youtube? B&Q do one. My friend decorated my bedroom last week and she said give her striped paper over patterned any day as there's no matching.

Before you put wallpaper on the walls, think about how much trouble it might be to get the bloody stuff off the walls in a few years' time when you've gone off it!

To answer your question, we have papered and painted walls in different colours and it looks exactly the way we wanted it to look!

What's the reason for starting opposite the window ? I was hoping not to paper that wall because it's got the door in it .

And yes, you do have to hang properly vertically, which does mean plumb lines and trimming. We don't always start dead centre if that's not convenient with the paper widths; you don't want to be missing a mm or two on one side. Better to have two good sized cut pieces far left and far right.
And stripes are harder to get right. Sorry.

What about just the wall with the bed on and paint the rest?

It's a choice of two papers . I prefer the stripes but the other would be easier as its plain .

No comments about the glitter ! DD and I have moved to a little house all to ourselves after years of having to have lodgers. Our rule is that everything has to be sparkly

That makes sense Oneepisode , so I'll maybe have to start not bang in the middle just in case I'm left with 1/1000000mm on one end.

Op, the pp said to start with the wall opposite the window. That's not the law or anything. I think that it's just because if it's in full daylight, in many rooms it should be your best work, so the pp suggested starting there, so the cut bits left at the end would be further away, so more in shadow, less obvious.

You could have two different wall papers if you are papering two opposite walls. (& cost effective) Or do one and decide how much you really like sparkle! The stripe will be less forgiving of bumps & uneven walls, there is a reason why my mum used to go all mad for florals as her lack of skill in wallpapering was less obvious... (And she didn't have you tube)

You could do the window wall and opposite in the plain paper and the other 2 walls stripey. My bedroom is like this (but it's the window and opposite walls that are stripey - dad is a decorator so did it for us) and I think it looks good.

Btw I love the glitter. I have I think the same stripes in your pic in my halls stairs and landing but cream stripes rather than brown. Love it.

The picture isn't great - it's silver and white stripes . DD has the cream and gold in her room (done by a decorator )
