access to mezzanine floor

We have a small mezzanine floor, used mostly for storage.

We have some telescopic ladders to get up to it, but I'm honestly too scared to use them so my OH is the only one who's made it up there!

I'd be happier if we had something like this: http://www.laddersandscaffoldtowers.co.uk/acatalog/Concertina-Loft-Ladders.html, attached somehow. Unfortunately while I can see how they'd attach to a loft hatch access, I'm not sure how/what we'd fix them to - at present there is a 30cm "wall"around the edge of the mezzanine (no gap, OH just climbs over it).

We can't have fixed steps so this seemed to be a good option, but does anyone know how we could fix them on (so easily retractable) to make it work for us?
