Internal door sizes

I need to replace my internal doors (1960s house) which are 1950mm high. A quick look on the b&q website shows the doors as being 1981mm - is that going to be ok?

You need to find out what the trim margin is. It'll state it on the description. Moulded doors will have very little trim margin 5/6mm. You'll be better off with a solid wood door. Try doorweb or todd's doors for reasonably priced doors for period and modern houses.

1981 high with 24mm trimmable is common and takes you to 1957mm.

Hollow doors are not very trimmable, but they are rubbish anyway.

Also if you email a door company such as Premdor, they can tell you more and may offer an "expanded range of sizes".

There is probably a retailer in your town who specialises in doors, rather than a general DIY shed.

Some suppliers have doors in several different sizes. I'd check some others if I were you. Have a look at Wickes and others.

if your door ends up a tight fit because of thick carpets, you can still get rising butt hinges which will lift it as it opens. They are not much used these days. A carpenter or joiner will plane a bevel on the top and bottom of the door to maximise the benefit from the lift.

It will be useful to measure the gap between the top of the door and the frame, and the bottom of the door and the threshold, to see if a door of more than 1950mm height would fit. You only need enough room to fit a coin between the door and the frame.

Premdor do a good range of sizes. A local timber merchant should be able to give you prices.

On the Premdor site the smallest size I can see is 1981 - am I doing something wrong?

does your house have laminated or engineered flooring? I wonder if the doors were trimmed to give clearance.
