Question for landlords

We are relocating abroad for a stint for work so are renting our house out.

We have an alarm that can be monitored.

Would you let the tenants use the alarm and would you let them have it monitored?

I have never had one so don't really see why you wouldn't.

What I would say it photograph and video every inch of that place before you give it over. Don't rely on the estate agent (if you use one). I've been massively bitten in the past.

I have rented out a property for 7 years with just a standard alarm and the tenants use it, in fact I can't even remember the code. I have had two sets of tenants and no problem, the estate agent manages the property and take an inventory so can't see what the issue would be, any damages then it would be taken out of the deposit!?! Mine have always been professional let's not sure if that makes a difference.

It will be a fully managed let. I have met the tenants and I think you're both right, if they want to use it then they should. I wondered because our landlord in the states is removing her alarm and cctv. Made me think about liabilities and stuff!

This issue I had with the estate agent is the inventory wasn't good enough. You only realise when something goes wrong. When claiming off the deposit you have to have evidence of the condition before. The deposit arbitrator used all of my photos and videos and none of theirs as they were so awful and lacking in detail.

Each to your own but I've been stung. Those arbitrators are quite harsh as well so just cover your own back.
