Can you use a log cabin as an extension?

As in actually attached to your house.

We were planning on building a kitchen extension on our house next year but now DH has this idea in his head as a cheaper alternative.

I can't find anything online saying anyone does this so I think it's not doable/practical but he's usually good with DIY stuff so I'm not sure.

Is this a really stupid question??

You can have a timber framed extension, but it would have to comply with all the building regulations for habitable buildings. Just as any extension would.

If you just attach a wooden summer house, for example, it would not be considered a habitable structure.

I can't help but think doing anything like that on the cheap is a mistake and could look very odd!

I think you will probably find it is not possible to do as it will not meet building regs.
