Colours throughout house

I'm allowing myself to get the tiniest bit excited about the redecoration of our new house (being v optimistic that it'll go trough this time).

Currently we are v neutral, timeless throughout entire house. Moving (hopefully) to a spacious 1930s & tempted to be a little more adventurous. No idea how best to choose colour by room though? Stick to v similar colours/tones? Concerned about it looking like a patchwork blanket!

I'm not really the person to ask as I'd paint the whole thing white! However if adding colour I'd do a room at s time, working within the same palette of colours to create a cohesive whole.

I usually choose paint to go with furnishings - so a duvet cover or curtains or the upholstery on a sofa. Alternatively you may see a colour you really like and use that as a starting point.

Or you might need to consider carpets or other floor coverings as it is rarely possible to change everything in one go.

The other thing to consider is the light in the room and when the room gets natural light.

I've always done white or cream but in my new house I seem to have had an interior designer bypass. Currently got Dayroom Yellow in one room, Dimpse in the hall, Nancy's Blushes (pink with a cheeky hint of pink) in the middle bedroom and I'm debating on a deep plucky aubergine for the master bedroom. I've also bought a deep pink snuggle. Dh reckons it's menopause and it just rocking in the corner. I think it's lovely. My kitchen is all white but I'm going to paint one wall pistachio I think. It's also a big bungalow (wanted a Victorian Terrace but hey) so you see every colour from some spots in the hall

Thanks. We're neutral, neutral here...I think mainly in an attempt at calm in amongst the children and clutter! I am v drawn to some of the soft greys, and also greens (not a colour I've ever considered before) - how do you find dimpse Sooverthis? Think carpets are currently creamy/beige...

Ha! I was going to suggest Timeless.

I'd try and get paints from the same range, look at the colour chart and see which ones have been put together or which ones contrast well depending on the look you're going for. I like chalky soft shades so paint ranges like Little Greene or ones that have 'vintage' type shades.

I think patchwork houses look the best!

I've painted my last three houses shades of bloody greige for selling - my next house is going to be very bright and I'm going to live there at least 10 years

And I'm having murals like this and no bloody grey

Love that LaurieFairyCake, and if I were more confident in my taste I'd definitely consider some gorgeous wallpaper! Have seen an excellent misty forest scene that I'd love on my bedroom wall 😄

Just make sure that neighbouring rooms don't clash.

Unless you can open one room into another I wouldn't worry too much about clashing colours. Have what you like.

Our house is off white with a hint of grey but totally agree with accessorising with light fittinga., cushions etc. We have one wall in smokey charcoal colour abd copper lights. Mix of funky cushions. Its calm enough but still has colour.

Otherwise just pick what you love and of won't really matter if it doesnt all perfectly match.

I have BRIGHT orange in downstairs loo, blutack blue in the kitchen and muted olive in the sitting room. With a cool greyish cream in the others, alternating neutral with colour.
If you are going to live there for a while, relax, experiment with colours you like, you can always put a new coat of paint on in a year or two.

I love a bit of colour.

We've just started painting this house but the plan is:

Light warm neutrals in the hallway and sitting room/ dining room (north facing)
Dulux Cameo Silk 1, Little Greene Linen Wash, Timeless on woodwork. Burnt orange, dark gold and blue grey pop up as accents throughout.

Palette of silvery greens and blues through the rest of downstairs (Little greene salix, Craig and rose Study room blue, Valspar Dover Surf) Linked together with more timeless

Bathrooms off whites
Bedrooms are our fave colours, each room uses the colours of the other rooms as accents
Dd1 warm pink (valspar alpaca mittens)
Us rich deep blue (prob lg woad)
Dd2 pale mint (not sure yet)
