Bathroom tiles - metro or not?

Have used crackle glaze Richmond Park metro tiles - tons of tiles- like these but cheaper - in the main bathroom with a greyish porcelain wood effect tile.

I was thinking of doing the same in the ensuite, then I could use leftover tiles, but on ordering a sample the thickness is different so they have obviously changed manufacturer. Does it look better to have consistency across bathroom/ensuite upstairs?

Bathroom/ shower suite are Burlington so a take on Victorian rather than modern and the metro tiles do seem to go well with this, but are metro looking dated now or still classic?

I am dithering before I order.
Has anyone just done a bathroom/shower room recently in a tile they love? The floor tiles I have enough of the wood effect ones to use.

You'll get different opinions, but I think metro tiles are classic, especially when they don't have bevelled edges. No need to match all your bathrooms - have what you like. Is there anything which could help you identify the manufacturer of the tiles you have? You could then match them up properly.

I still like metro. I do like blue or green, so maybe if I can't source the others, I should go with another colour.

I do need to make my mind up sharpish though, as the fitter comes soon and everything else is ordered and ready.

For me it's a nooooooooooooooo. They are absolutely everywhere. Unless you have a period property I would suggest it may well date.
But I will contradict myself and say I could have this in my house->

Never follow trends or listen to what others tell you is in or not. Always go with what you like and what looks good you'll never be disappointed.

Those tiles and similar make me think of prisons and asylums.

Metro tiles are a bit love or hate. I love the look (in some houses) but I have a few friends/family who absolutely loathe them and say they look like they belong in a public toilet.

I'm not fussed one way or the other on the look of them, but small tiles in a shower cubicle will have a lot of grouting to trap grime. Large tiles will look fresher and be easier to clean.

You can get metro tiles in larger sizes too. Might be worth looking into OP.

I agree, its down to you, your budget (particularly if you have tiles left over) but I don't think you need to match your ensuite and your main bathroom.

FWIW, I also think metro tiles are everywhere and a bit old hat now, but I definitely agree with the grouting point - unless you have dark coloured grout (although it will still need cleaning too often).

DH is tiling the kitchen in red metro tiles and I love them. We're going to be doing the bathroom later this year but I've already decided I want bigger tiles there - less grouting and I just don't like them in the bathroom.

I love the white porcelain hexagonal subway that are very evocative of 1930s American apartment buildings. The tiler hated me, and there's lots of grouting.

Agree about the grout in the shower. - just not sure about what larger tile if I go for this.

We've almost completed a renovation and extension project on our house. I've gone for tiles that I like rather than whats trendy at the moment. We've gone for metros in our loft bathroom and i think it looks great - hasn't been fully cleaned yet so floor looks grotty.

With the Burlington style suite the metro tiles will be perfect.

A decent tiler would be able to use more adhesive/less adhesive to make sure the tiles were all level if there was a slight difference in thickness.

I love the look of metro tiles, but I hate small tiles for all the grouting. So I'm on the fence!

If I was safe in the knowledge that I had a cleaner coming in 2x a week to keep on top of the tiles, I'd defo get metro :-)

I would go for different tiles in each bathroom, rather than all the same. That way if you sell the house and the buyer doesn't like one style they won't be thinking about having to replace them all!

I love metro - love the acqua blue ones in bathrooms

They are a classic design I love them. However, those Moroccan tiles which are in fashion will look v. dated in a year or two.

I think metros are classic. Get the non-bevelled ones if you want to avoid the public convenience look. Another oprion is to get a highly glazed square tile and lay that in brick bond wth a slightly contrasting grout I think that looks effective. I agree that the moroccan style tile thing is very 70s (remembers them from first time around) and should be sent back there IMO.

I'm having the same dilemma, love metro tiles but worried about dating. But I guess they've lasted all these years...
If I do get them, considering crackled non bevelled.
