Ours died today so going to buy a new one in the morning and try and replace it ourselves. We can buy the exact model which is 8.5kw or the 9.5kw model. Would the more powerful one be ok with the existing wiring?

Possibly.

It is difficult for you to assess the cable size and any derating factors.

If you want a better answer, look for a qualified local electrician on one of the Competent Person scheme websites such as NICEIC. Personal recommendation is better but you must verify they are listed on their scheme.

Thanks. The cable goes into the loft and therefore possibly through insulation. Think we'll play it safe and just do a straight swap.

it'll be much easier if you do get the exact model....our last one was a right faff as the connections were in the opposite corner and we had to replace the wire.

the same one will fit on the same screws and everything will match.
