Loft conversions

I'm considering a loft conversion which will comprise of a master bedroom, bathroom and walk in wardrobe.

I'm interested in any top tips/suggestions of things that work really well in your loft conversion or if there are things that you would do differently and also if there was anything you didn't consider but in hindsight would be a must if you did it again.

Thanks in advance Smile

We have no fire doors but they put smoke alarms wired to the mains in every room instead. Wasn't expensive and was ideal as we didn't want a door at the top of the new stairs for light etc

But yes to head height ours was fine but a friend had ceiling lowered etc and it's been very messy and very costly

We are one week into ours and looking good. Surprisingly the former is already on!!

We are having a large bedroom with bifold and a juliette balcony in the dormer - it will be full head height. The bathroom will be at one side running the width of the house front to back - so half head height and half eaves. The rest of the eaves is walk in wardrobe. Top tips include leaving a small boarded space for storage like your Christmas box. Personally I've seen so many badly done loft conversions and think this happens when people don't pay the money for things like a dormer or a crown roof or when they squish too much up there. Remember you may want to sell at some point.

Put the bed under the velux windows.
You can open and close the windows without getting out of bed, it's lovely to sleep under the stars and it maximises the headspace in the rest of the room.

Thanks for the suggestions.

Good luck mumnosbest and Peanutpickle - would love some updates about how it goes and if there are any lessons learnt along the way Smile

If you are still considering a loft conversion. Do not use this outfit

Smiths of Bromley. My daughter had no end of problems when she used them for her loft conversion. Very unreliable people.
