Opening an inaccessible Velux window - any ideas?

I really need to open (and later, close) a Velux window above a stairwell. It's horribly damp up there which has caused mould on the wall nearby, not to mention covered with cobwebs and generally mucky. I'm getting it repainted, but it will get damp up there again very quickly if the window stays shut (it's the highest point in the house so all the hot air rises and then condenses there).

Short of a very long stair ladder (not an option, nowhere to keep it), is there any way of getting it open and shut? I wondered if anyone had discovered special poles or something that would allowe me to do it?

We have a 12 foot pole for opening our vekux at the top of the landing (you still need to stand on a chair with it as it's a very high roof). It works great and AFAIK they are available from vekux.

I don't know why velux keeps autocorrect in to vekux (is that even a word?)

We have an extending pole. This is the official velux one but I'm sure there are cheaper copies on the market.

That's exactly what I need, thanks! For some reason all I could find via Google was the blind opening pole, which (as we don't have a blind) is entirely unnecessary.

My parents have a massive pole wiht hook for opening a velux in a double-hight atrium thinggy. Does the job.

If anyone else is looking, I found the Velux window pole (not to be confused with the blind pole) for £19 on Amazon, down from £30 on the Velux site.

try a £2.99 clothes prop from the Range, just trim the top and bottom of the plastic loop slightly to fit around Velux opening bar.
