Bodged "design" features that make you want to weep

I saw a house yesterday with a super cheap, non-glazed, white PVC front door with the house number scrawled onto the front in black marker pen. It made me so sad.

I saw another house with a back door (onto a lane) that was also PVC but this time with glazed panels on the top and bottom, but the owner had clearly decided they wanted more privacy, and so had screwed on two badly fitting pieces of scrap wood over the glass on the top and bottom of the door, and the wood didn't even cover all of the glass!

Anyone else seen any crimes against design and aesthetics on houses near them?

I'm not sure either of those is an example of body design. Perhaps the occupants don't have the money for repairs or a proper house number sign?

My personal favourite is Doric columns and porticos on 1960s houses.

Don't suppose anybody still does it, but fake stone cladding on what would have been a perfectly nice house.
Makes you want to weep for next door neighbours - must surely affect the value of theirs, having an eyesore like that next door.

OTOH maybe you can buy them at a discount and have the hideous 'improvement' taken off...

Every morning I drive past a house that has a GIANT squirrel climbing up the front of it.

Where I used to live, across the back way from us there was a long LONG row of redbrick Victorian terraces (this was in Manchester natch). Slap bang in the middle of the row there was a single house, cladded roof to ground in "sandstone". Amazing!

I sort of admire the bloody-mindedness really.

Unbelievably we were here for two years before we realised the wonky daido rail in the living room was two different designs.

Does fake leading/Georgian style squares on double glazed windows on 1970's construction semi's count? Very 'Keeping up Appearances'.

I would attach a picture of my kitchen, uniquely designed by the previous owners, but it is so unique I fear it would instantly out me. The kitchen designer chap who came round to measure and up and quote was so that he took photos to show his colleagues.

giggles The first house DH and I owned together was like that. I've never been so glad to see the back of something. But again, I can't describe it without outing myself...

My house is an mostly original 30's brick built house in a row of mostly original 30's brick houses houses and they all look lovely.. Except my neighbours house which is cladded In crazy paving 😳 Looks dreadful.

Also just remembered at least 3 houses around here with lion sculpturs on each side of the drive, and one with an eagle on the roof of the porch!
