Can I ask for kitchen feedback please?

We're about to put in our new kitchen, and I've changed layout a good few times, but think I'm finally done.
It's an Ikea Ringhult gloss grey, the tiles are a taupe colour with a slight grey vein, and we're thinking of a white brick effect tile for the wall with the shelves. There are no wall units, and all the units have deep drawers except the front of the island which is for glasses.
I'm not sure what colour to paint the other walls either.

You have a lot of empty space in the nearest corner. Do you have any plans for that?

The dining table is going there...it's not on the plan as I don't need to buy it

To my mind the floor-to-ceiling block of units on the right hand wall looks a little laboratory like. Do you have to fit them that way or could you use the other walls? You would get more work surface that way. But of course you may love them as you have designed them and be thinking of a dining area in the front half.

How about teal as a colour for the walls?

Personally I don't like the hoods that come down to the island and I would ask have you considered the hoods that are flat/flush to the ceiling?

1. given how high the top units above the oven are, have you considered making sure you can tuck a step into the island/somewhere accessible but not visible? It will make that storage more usable
2. deep drawers are wonderful in kitchens
3. since you don't have top units: you seem to have two floating shelves. Are they the IKEA stainless steel ones? We rented a kitchen with two long shelves of them and I was surprised how handy it was - kept pans out, and spices, and a few other things that were accessible but also looked well on display. I'd consider extending the shelves so both go fully across: I think the floating shelves both look not really big enough to be useful as they are
4. it's not my style, but some kind of bright but matt colour like a yellowy almost like green could make the grey pop. I think a teal or cool colour could be too dark.

I like the style overall., looks like it will be sleak with lots of stoorage so everythign away, and lots of light from those two windows.

Wall colour - I think it needs something light and bright (and a bit more interesting than white) but not sure what.

I like the hood - have a simmilar one in the flat and it kinda defines the cooking area from the dining area.

Are the glasses going to be annoying to put away after they come out of the dish washer since they are on the other side of the island?

I too would extend the shelved all the way across rather than having them staggered like that.

I like most of it. What about turning the island round 90 degrees? It would give you more space between the island and doors to the garden, make the cupboards for the glasses easier to access from the sink/dishwasher and won't impact on your dining space or traffic in and out of the door.

I would query the wisdom of storing glasses in the island altogether though - much easier to get them out of a cupboard which is above waist level.

I agree that the placement of the island unit looks awkward for me - does the bank of tall units include the fridge freezer? I think I'd prefer the stand with my back to the oven and fridge etc whilst I was at the hob (if you see what I mean). The whole triangle between sink, fridge and hob would be better if you turned the island around.

The bank of high units are for the fridge freezer, oven, larder and cleaning cupboard. I wanted to have them all together with plenty of storage so opted for the high ones. I quite like the streamlined look...my previous choice was more of a shaker style but all the squares on the doors looked wrong.

The glasses stored in the island are just the fancy ones that we don't use all the time. The normal ones will be in a handier place.

The steel shelves are each four feet long, so won't go right the way across. I thought the staggered effect would be better than having two in the middle, but I'll swap it around and try it.

Same with the island, I'll turn it around and see the difference. I thought it would be nice to see the doors when you enter the kitchen instead of the side panels, but it does make sense to turn it

No, it's an integrated fridge freezer, larder, mop cupboard, baking cupboard and double oven. There's a supporting beam across the ceiling which will be at the end of the cupboards, so makes a sort of natural break.

Aubergine, lime green or maybe orange paint

Another thread has put heather on their walls but it may not be strong enough for your room

I have a flat extractor and it's great, makes the kitchen much more useable and looks better too.

Larder - is this a regular style cupboard with fixed shelves? Have you thought about having one of those tall sets of pull-out drawers instead? Personally I like those and it would break up the lab cupboard effect a bit.

Also personal preference, but I really dislike brick effect tiles especially in white... feels like men's industrial bathroom to me, though I know it's very popular now! Not sure what to suggest instead though.

Agree lime green paint would look good.

I've just painted my kitchen lime green - I love it

We ended up adding one wall unit to the kitchen just to put mugs and glasses in.
Is there a dishwasher somewhere?
We have got our kitchen so that the crockery/cutlery/glass storage is right next to the dishwasher so easy to load/unload. You could have these in the island maybe.
Also the kettle is near this space and the fridge so that making a cuppa (essential) is efficiently done.
Personally I'd prefer the hob to be on the wall near the cooker and the sink further left, with the island plain for baking or serving. There is only a little worktop near the hob, I can see it would end up crowded with peelings etc from something being prepared/cooked. Or the meal makings would end up spread over 2 or 3 locations? The 3 or 4 feet next to the hob is the busiest space of my kitchen.

Yes re larders Ikea have good selection of pull out drawers and inner drawers. You might want to replace some of your pan drawers with pull-out units which are a bit more flexible as to what you can stuff in them.

Thankyou . My DD and I have just moved , our old house was all creams and 'grown up' colours . In our new house we have a rule where we can only have only have bright colours and all things sparkly !

We've actually bought the extractor as it was on sale, and there was no way we could afford one of the flat ceiling ones, so that can't be changed.

The larder is a door with pull out shelves and drawers in it, and some of the smaller ones are pull out too...sorry I just called them all pan drawers .

The brick effect tiles I'm looking at aren't metro - they always remind me of a public toilet too. The ones I want are more of a real brick effect...slightly distressed, and only on the one wall behind the shelves. I'm not quite sure though.

RaisingSteam - good point about the glasses and cups. I was thinking of having them in a low cupboard with pull out shallow drawers beside the dishwasher (that's beside the sink). The food prep would be done beside the sink as the bins will be under the sink, then just turn around to put pots on the hob. Do you think that would work?

Following suggestions having just deigned and fitted an ikea kitchen:

Put in a pull out spice rack somewhere close to your hob.

You seem to have a lot 600mm wide drawers, I think it looks very busy and there will be lots of handles. I would put in a few 800mm wide units. I find the 800mm wide a dream for my plates etc. I have my cups and glasses in drawers ( 600mm wide unit with 2 drawers) and find there is a lot of dead air above the cups if that makes sense.

Looks like you have 2 units of drawers in the corner and lots of dead space. I would suggest putting a corner unit with carousel between in the corner to use up the space.

I went with Ikea grey bobyn with white counters and kept the walls white with no overhead cabinets. I think its lovely, fresh and bright.

There's a rail around the extractor for the spice jars so that'll be above the hob.
It's probably hard to see from the plan, but all the drawers are 800mm. The only 600mm are the dishwasher and washing machine fronts. The ones for cups and glasses will have shallower inside drawers so there isn't too much of a gap above them.
The corner unit has a carousel in it too.
