No Drainpipe - Bad Drainage

Hi

We live in a mid terrace house, the end two houses have drain pipes, our house however has no drainpipe.

We never really thought about it until very recently when we got someone out to price up for a conservatory/extension and to replace the guttering and fascias. He pointed the lack of drainpipe issue out to us because our garden does have bad drainage. He did mention the possibility of connecting so that we share with the neighbour, and asked how well we got on, they have only just moved in a couple of weeks though, so not sure how to approach the subject.

Is there any other way? We need this sorted before we can start any work.

Any advise would be much appreciated.

Thanks
Dee

PS The guy did say a soakaway wouldn't be enough.

Someone will be able to correct me but I think if you put rain water into the drains, rather than a soakaway, you need to pay your water company. Was your builder suggesting putting your rain water into your neighbour's soakaway (potentially making their garden soggy) or drains (they may not be paying to do this either..) ?
