Window Dressing. Advice please.

Just had new kitchen of white glossy loveliness.
Our kitchen window is a large white upvc window and looks rather stark now. It gets a lot of sunlight.
DH hates roller blinds. I hate anything fussy. We aren't overlooked so we just need something to soften the appearance.
So far my only thought is a Roman blind but it would be expensive to remain almost permanently up gathering dust and I'm not sure it would be 'right'.
Any brilliant ideas?

I've just done my kitchen too and after weeks of deliberation and the neighbours looking in from the back and pedestrians looking in the front I have decided on white wooden Venetian, but the really fat ones.

California blinds? I shall Google!
Not sure about Venetians as DH leaves our bathroom one at heights that displease me :)

Plantation shutters?

Sorry, I think I meant plantation shutters but got the name wrong!

Why not use plants instead. A few nice potted succulents around the bottom or on a shelf just above seem a better solution if softening is your only aim.

Or some shelf like this could work.

If you were never going to use it, you could have a false roman blind made, couple of folds of material just to dress the window. Wouldn't be expensive.

I love windows dressed with plants. Plants of different heights, textrues along the windo sill and a trailing plant in a hanging pot. Lovely.
