hi,

were thinknig of putting this kitchen in our house with different handles as we dont like the ones pictured.the units are a very pale warm grey. we weould also have a darker wooden floor to give some warmth and colour to the room.

any thoughts? do you like it hate it or no preference?

we prob would have a granite worktop too instead of the quartz one pictured

I like it. I am also looking at kitchens as we are going to be having a new extension shortly, and that is the type we are looking at too. I am thinking of a light colour, maybe off white, with a similar shade of Quartz worktop, with a warm oak floor. Like you, different handles, probably a knob and cup handle combination. So, I will follow this with interest. I hope that helps!

It's actually from b and q so pretty good cost wise too and were thinking if we put an expensive worktop and good quality handles and appliances it will look good.

Ooh I didn't see that in b and q. I have lots of brochures from small independent suppliers, so will have to choose soon. I have been too busy drooling over Tom howley kitchens, and trying to figure out how to achieve a similarly high-end, simple lines, and sort of timeless but contemporary look on a much more modest budget....... Any advice welcome

My neighbours have similar. It looks fantastic.

i similarly have seen a Tom Howley kitchen i love and trying to reacreate the look!! from research i think it comes down to handles and worktop more than units.
you can have amazing units but if the handles are wrong it looks awful. and if you don't have a nice worktop it cheapens the whole look. So our plan is to go for cheaper units and then spend the money on handles and worktop.
We are doing a kitchen diner yes, would have loved it big enough for a family area but cant quite afford that at the moment so this will have to do for now.

have you looked at neptune kitchens? they are cheaper than Tom Howley and in my opinion just as lovely.

I saw a Neptune and a Tom Howley kitchen I liked and recreated it cheaper. If it isn't seen as a boast I will attach pictures herewith.

I got the pendant lights from Neptune though as actually they were competitive and cheaper than John Lewis. The bookcase with cookery books was on sale at GLTC

Funny question but do you remember what colour paint you used on the walls? It really is a beautiful kitchen

Yes of course. We got the kitchen from Cambridge Kitchens and Bathrooms. They are a local independent. The units were supplied to them by a company called Callerton. The island is Wilken Grey and the remainder of units are porcelain (a soft off white rather than a cream or bright white).

They had 250 choice of handles but I had seen some on the Neptune Limehouse range that I preferred so they sourced some similar for me. The floor tiles (wood effect tiles) are from a local supplier Reza's tiles in Cambridge but the make and colour is Atelier Beige. Reza's sell them at £34.95 per sq m but I negotiated a discount.

The worktop is quartz - Canadian White. The paint one end is Dulux (coloured matched to Neptune's shingle) and the dining room end is good old Timeless.

On the run of ovens there is a larder cupboard one end and an integrated fridge the other. I have 2 single ovens, a steam oven and warming drawer in that run (all Neff). The induction hob and extractor fan are Neff too.

Anything I've forgotten? The A is from Homesense (£20) , the side table Homesense (£39), the candelabra is £20 from Sainsbury's and different coloured candles from John Lewis. I already had the sofa (but it was from John Lewis 8 years ago). The big clock was from a local auction room but I think they have similar in quite a few places now but probably not as cheap as I got it!

The dining table is Mira from John Lewis and the chairs are Moda in light dove from Next.

Gadget wise I also have a waste disposal as I had one at my old house and really missed not having one having had one.

I think I covered everything but ask away if you think of anything else.

Thank you so much!! It's a beautiful kitchen, just what I had pictured having. I also love the limehouse handles. I actually love the limehouse kitchen too. Going to look up the units now. Do you find the quartz easy to keep clean? We've only ever had granite but I'm nervous of granite in a pale colour.

we had dark granite before at our last house. The quartz so far (we only finished a month ago) is a lot easier to keep clean and doesn't show water marks or crumbs as much (I have 3 boys and a husband!). Also our kitchen designed explained that the lighter a granite is the "weaker" it is. I can't explain it really other than darker is denser so less likely to break or stain than a light coloured granite. also a lot of the lighter granites were definitely more creamy or even yellowy rather than white. You can really see but ours is white and pale grey with glass in too (but not what I call footballers' wives blingy sparkles!)

Also definitely have as many pan drawers as you can. On one side of the island I can literally stand and unload the plates and bowls from the dishwasher into the drawers of the island.

Wow, they are both beautiful, and very much like I am hoping to create. Thanks for the recommendation of Neptune too mrsdarcy, I will definitely check it out. We are going for a kitchen diner, and that will be part open to a big decent quality conservatory with pocket doors to partition it off sometimes, to use that bit as a family room/flop zone. We will have a separate utility so that will help too, plus other downstairs rooms.

Looking at your beaut photos on here, it also stands out to me that symmetry plays a big part in the finish, and also the wide drawers. Definitely something I would like like. It's lovely of you to both share the photos, and hope you don't mind me tagging on me Darcy. It's nice to talk kitchens with people on my wavelength rather than watching dh glaze over and nod at my twittering...
