Over sixties - Advice please re. American style fridge freezer.

We're in our sixties and hoping to completely refurb. the kitchen and I really, really want an American style fridge freezer.
People tell me I will find it a nuisance keep having to stoop to floor level to get to the salad / veg drawers and lower shelf as I have used a standard upright f.f. all my married life.
Does anyone here in their sixties who has one of these models have any advice please ?

But don't you have to bend down at the moment to get things out of the bottom of your ordinary fridge freezer?
I'm in my sixties and if I had room in my kitchen I'd have an American style one, it's all about mobility rather than age surely.
Just get one and enjoy it

The only way to completely avoid stooping down is to have a separate
fridge and f/f fitted at eye level. But I am not sure if the furniture
beneath would be strong enough to carry it.
There are a large number of f/fs available with the fridge at the top
and freezer at the bottom - so not too much bending down

There are some American style fridge freezers that are fridge top and freezer ( in drawers) at the bottom. Hotpoint make this one and Samsung make this one.

You could reclassify the drawers as beer holders, and keep your frequently used items higher up?

Daisy, yes precisely; I do have to bend to floor level to get things out of the lowest drawer in our current model and this is one reason why I want the American style as they have larger capacity and I won't have to struggle to force the freezer drawers out 'cos I've over filled them (that's my theory and I'm sticking to it).

The freezer at the bottom is incredible really I would never go back to the reverse. As for overflowing freezers, well unfortunatly there is no magic trick
drawers help, but even with an additionnal chest freezer, everyone I know needs to be careful not to overfill them

it's amazing, everyday stuff is at a nice height.
the bottom freezer is drawers easy to organize and fits a full sized turkey.

Now that would be perfect Out2, but I'm in the U.K. and it doesn't look like they do that model here.
But I think I'm sticking with the side by side model and if I find it awkward when I'm not so mobile, well then that will be the time to reconsider.
And hopefully, it won't be for ages yet.

Costco do a similar FF, with double doors for the fridge, but a big drawer door for the freezer. (I'm currently lusting after it.)

I have an American style FF and dislike the narrowness of the freezer.

And if you google double door fridge freezers you get quite a range available in the UK.

BTW I also dislike the narrowness of the veg drawers. I can never get all our veg into them. My parents, in their 80s, American FF users for 30+y, and now only catering for 2-3 people, have also always found this a problem.

As you can see, I'm not a fan of the style, and would never choose it for myself, had I the choice.

Don't get a side by side one. The freezer is too narrow & everything falls out. I'm desperate for mine to die (Whirlpool, has been incredibly unreliable but refuses to die properly) so I can justify the Costco one (does it have ice though, we love the ice?)
