Venetian blinds

Ok, I've decided to go for these. I've researched them and seen that keeping these kind of blinds dust-free is an issue. The guy measuring up for me said he had black ones and the dust did his head in so he went and got white, which he's now happy with.

So my questions are:

If you have Venetian blinds, are they worth it when you counter keeping them dust-free into it?

What colour would you have if you went for it?

Which size? They have small ones (which I've already decided against), then 35cm and 50cm. I'm trying to google the different sizes but am not coming up with anything. I haven't been to the showroom yet.

Yes they are worth it! I think they have a very stylish look, and I love the way the light coming through them makes patterns on surfaces (like wooden floors). They are excellent for maintaining privacy but still being able to see out. You can get special brushes with two prongs to clean them, only £2-3 on eBay or from Betterware or something. You don't have to do it too often.

I would choose wooden ones, or wood effect, as then if you change the colour of your walls it will still go. If not that, then cream.

I have 35mm ones and love them. I have white painted wood effect and don't find them too dusty at all.

We have nude colour and agree they are great for privacy

I don't find the dust thing too bad but l generally try to dust every week so l just close them one way and run the duster over then close them the other way. Very simple and no need for a two pronged duster

Ok, it's probably more like once a month l do actually get around to dusting (in my mind l aim for weekly) but still no problem!

We have quite a few venetians, big windows, one room we have oak colour and the other cream. I much prefer the cream, don't show the dust as much and make the room seem lighter.

In the bathroom we have a dark brown plastic/metal one and its awful for attracting dust.

I would go for a medium size, not too narrow as they look cheap. I suppose it depends on the size of your window.

Yes. I love mine, all painted wood, but they do get dusty.

I love mine. They're white upvc wood effect and look very clean and smart.
They don't get very dusty at all - I just close them and use a feathery type long handled duster to clean them.
The slats are quite deep - 50mm I think (not at home to measure) I think the deeper slats look more up to date.

Thank you, you lovely people. Your advice has convinced me! I have decided to go for white wood 50mm. My walls are currently white but I think if I did later change the colour white goes with everything and the window frames are white anyway. Thanks for the dusting experiences and tips too.

Can I ask what sort would be best for the kitchen? I'd really like white or cream in there but not sure wood is a good idea but don't like the metal ones. Can anyone help? Thanks

The upvc ones are nicer than you'd think, I love mine.

I have them and love them.

The key thing is to dust them regularly so you don't get a build up. I use baby wipes to clean the slats as you can do both sides of the slat at once.

Another thing to consider is that a big blind is actually quite heavy if you intend to raise and lower it.
