Anyone able to tell me about solicitors fees

Following the death of my mother, we are selling her house. My sister is handling everything. She has told me what the solicitors fees are and it seems really high just for selling.

I wonder if anyone is willing to tell me what they paid. The property is in lomdon priced at £300,000

Less than £1k, could be more like £500 if you want to use an online conveyancing firm.

ShatnersBassoon is right. We charge around £600 to sell a property, though fees are higher if the property is leasehold.

3 bed freehold they are charging £1014 incl VAT.

That seems a little high. Why did your sister decide to use this solicitor? It could be worth shopping around unless your sister has a good reason to stick with this firm.

The deal was that I looked after them (mother and stepfather) for about 10 years. She always said how grateful she was, and I said, "it is ok, but once they are gone, will you deal with everything else?" I am exhausted!!!!!

I can't really say anything to her, but I just wondered. I am not complaining, The house has just gone on the market and first time buyers have offered miles more than we thought it was worth. We are very simple and very naive, we did not believe the estate agent valuation.

Our excellent conveyancer charged around £600. Try to avoid the online-only mills, they tend to be staffed by largely unqualified, inexperienced paralegals in my experience.

East of Anglia - £750 for a sale or purchase (search fees on top). However a cheap solicitor maybe a false economy. £300 may disappear in the noise if you get a solicitor who communicates well, has a well organised office and is efficient.
