Straw Poll required! New bathroom suite or not?

I have decided to put in a shower in the main bathroom. Property is around 25 yrs old and still has original suite in. I have several options -

option 1 :- replace bathroom suite, tile new taps, add shower over bath.

option 2 :- replace taps on bath and sink plus waste, add shower over bath.

option 3:- replace sink, taps etc..... add shower over bath.

Technically there is nothing wrong with the bathroom suite as it stands just dated - think shell shaped and you've got it. Its white and I would be replacing it with a white suite - only difference being is I would probably choose a 'P' shaped bath to house the shower. (bath is not my problem her as its a normalish shaped bath, its the sink!

Reason to do whole bathroom is as I am spending money on doing shower I have to re tile so is it worth doing the whole lot??

This isn't necessarily my forever home although I am planning on staying here for a good few years. (Its not my bathroom as I have an en suite but it will be the only bathroom that will have a shower in it!)

Decisions decisions...................

If the bath is OK, and you want to keep costs down, you could just replace the basin with something plain-ish that would 'go'.

If the bath is normal size then a P shape may be nice, but not necessary. We have had showers over 2 bog standard identical baths for many years and have never felt that the space is at all cramped.

Think that's my main problem - technically there is actually nothing wrong with the old suite just a little dated! But if I was to just change the sink, would it still match!

I replaced the toilet and bath in my bathroom but left the sink because I liked it as it was. It looks good and not immediately obvious that it's not a matching suite.

As long as any new bits of suite that you get are the same shade of white and aren't overly trendy, and are curved rather than very square (lots of new designs seem to be about right angles which wouldn't go with your 25-yr old bath and loo) I would have thought it would be ok,

I'd replace the bath. A shell shaped one, even white, is dated. You can get cheapish baths if cost is the concern.

find a plumber's merchant and you can get good offers which give you bath, bog, sink and all the taps etc for under £200.

This is a good opportunity to do things properly, make sure the bath is properly supported and sealed and that all pipes and overflows go where they should.

shells are also a PITA for cleaning - but if in decent nick, try on ebay, someone might want it all.

I'd go for all new. Baths can be quite cheap and even a cheap one will look better than a shell one.

I suspect many of us replace stuff that's theres nothing actually wrong with as it's just not to our taste.

I couldn't bring myself to splash out on a new bathroom and keep the old bath.

Yup if you are spending money on shower and tiling I think you should spend a little bit more and get a shiny new bathroom. I love a P shaped bath to shower in, also v nice to have a big deep bath in as lots more room.
