How much would a new boiler cost?

Our diverter valve has gone. It's an old boiler they don't make and parts are notoriously expensive for this boiler. Plus many plumbers won't do work on it. Anyway we have found someone and have been quoted £450. Bloody expensive tbh but we don't have hot water so kind of essential.

The boiler is 11years old and the plumber did say boilers have a life of between 10-15 years. I'm not sure if it's going to be worth throwing money at this old boiler where parts are costly. The plumber is pricing up some boilers for us.

What would be a reasonable price to pay, all in? I noted they had Valliant on their shirts and would be looking to get one of them or a Worcester.

We have had a new boiler installed at my Step-fathers house. It was a one day job for two men to remove and dispose of the old one and install the new. £2800.

Depends. We've just paid £3.6k for a new boiler, TRVs on all the radiators and one small radiator replacement but we did have the boiler moved from downstairs to upstairs so needed new flue and pipework etc. Good quality Worcester Bosch with 10 year warranty.

We were quoted between £2000 to £3000 for a WB Junior 5 years ago (incl 2 new
radiators ) so a big variation. Last year friend quoted £2000 to put in a new boiler
and 3 rad- ch from scratch- but i don't think that was WB/Vaillant.
Our old plumber (retired 40 years experience) said the new boilers will not last
as long as the old ones and told us to keep the old (Comb one)
I wish we had as ours only had one small fault ( sometimes the hot water would
just stop and start in the kitchen but we just got this looked at on the annual
service) nothing compared to your £450. We kept it for 15 years but we could
have got 20 from it quite easily.
I am not convinced by the Govt propaganda re new condensing boilers.
We have not saved that much in energy costs.All it does it saves in as much
as it stops your bills escalating.
remember if you have a warranty you need to have an annual service
or it becomes invalid and as with all new products you must register
it with the manufacturer (within 30 days?)

Apparently if you get one with British gas, then you can repay over 10 years. I was just having the same coversation with a BG man yesterday.

Worcester does seem to be the right answer in general - get as long a warranty as you can.

also think about system flushing (chemical or power), those TRVs and a magnaclean.

BG quoted us £5000 for just a straight swap of the boiler in it's current position!

BG tend to charge double the amount everybody else charges.
The cost of the boiler will depend on type, size and how much work needs to be done to replace it. We have a very large conventional condensing boiler (rather than combi) which had to be resited for the flue so that cost rather more than the small combi I had fitted in my first house. Quotes for your circumstances are usually the best way to get an idea of costs.
Worcester(WB) or Valliant are both decent makes, and you will pay a premium for them, however I have always been happy with WB and have one in my home at the moment. Recently had a Ideal Vogue boiler fitted on a project which worked out more reasonable, it has decent reviews and a decent warranty so may also be worth a look.
£450 repair would make me look at a new boiler.

We had same issue in January, got a new like for like replacement. (Vailliant) the boiler cost £975 and fitting 400, took our local gas safe engineer two days but there was no moving pipes or anything. Look for local labour much cheaper and not usually vat registered like big companies

Thanks. Had a quote for some boilers from the person who came out. £1900 for a vaillant, he is an approved vaillant engineer. He quite 4 different boilers and prices, £1900 was his most expensive. That includes flushing, New flue, dtaining the radiators, putting some stuff in the system to prevent corrosion, magnaclean and loads of other stuff. We are quite happy with that price and it seems worth it rather than paying a quarter of that to get an old one fixed.

Cheapest boiler and fitting is around £1200.

For a decent boiler, you’ll be looking at £2000-£3000.

Hopefully op has a new boiler already, thread is from May 2016!!!!!
