Considering renting for about 6 months. Know the return of deposit can be a minefield. What advice for

1 checks to take before moving in?

  1. before photographs / evidence worth having?
  2. clauses in the contract to watch out for?

Shall have my 2 teenage daughters and hopefully very sleepy dog. Thanks.

Hi there, we're just going to move this over to our property topic, where we think you'll get the best response. Flowers

Ensure that an independent inventory is done at the start and finish ideally with photos and that you attend both so that you can ensure you are happy that they are accurate.

Read the government publication How to Rent OP - I believe this has to be given to tenants at the start of their tenancy now. Be aware that various common clauses in tenancy agreements don't hold water as they are contrary to the law, but agents who either don't know the law or want to bully you into doing what they want will tell you the tenancy agreement is gospel.

Legally your deposit should go in a deposit protection scheme so the landlord can't just hold it back.
